Best Christmas gift ever
For those of you still buying Christmas presents in the last minute rush, this might make things a little easier for you to find that perfect Christmas gift for a loved one.
At the wise old age of 3, I decided that I wanted to give my Dad a special Christmas present. Now being too young for pocket money, I really had to use my imagination. What was something Dad really enjoyed? Well at 3, one thing I knew my Dad did enjoy was having a cold beer with his mates. So I went to the bar, found a bottle and lovingly wrapped it in xmas paper to put under the tree on Christmas morning. Somehow I managed to keep this present hidden from both of my parents and my big sister.
On Christmas morning, I like all typical kids was up very early and so I snuck down to the Christmas tree to not only check out what Santa had left my sister and I but to also put Dad's present under the tree. This wasn't an easy task with the bottle of beer being quite heavy for a 3 year old.
We had present rules in our house and presents were opened from oldest to youngest so it didn't take long for Dad to be handed his presents from my sister and I. I cannot explain how thrilled my Dad was when he unwrapped that bottle of beer. He didn't even mind that I'd taken it from his bar, somehow that made the present all the better in his eyes.
To give you an idea of how great this present was to my Dad, he made such a fuss that for many years following, every birthday, father's day and Christmas my Dad received a bottle of his own beer from my sister and I as a present. Even when we started receiving pocket money and bought small gifts from the school fetes, Dad still got a bottle of beer all wrapped up.
My Dad happily tells this story all the time and alongwith a leather belt I made him when I was a Girl Guide that he still wears, I know that those bottles of beer were the best presents we ever gave him.
So this year I have worked out the perfect present again for my Dad. A few weeks ago Dad lent me his latest Clive Cussler book to read and now that I've finished it, you guessed it I think it's only fitting that I wrap it up in Christmas paper and put it under the tree on Christmas morning for him.
Now all I have to do is make sure that Dad doesn't read this blog in the next 36 hours or the fun will be spoilt. I am pretty sure that this will bring back some great memories for all of the family present on Christmas morning and I'll keep you posted as to what he thinks of his present.
So if you are madly trying to think of what to buy someone special in your life, is there something simple like this that may trigger as many happy memories in your family as this will in mine and make your Christmas a very merry Christmas.
